Communications Director

EMILY’s List, one of the largest political resources for women in politics, is seeking a Communications Director to manage the organizational public relations and oversee candidates’ campaign communication assessments. The Communications Director will be a part of senior management and will be included in strategic planning and decisions.

Responsibilities

The Communications Director will lead a team responsible for all public outreach efforts including earned media (television, print, radio, and new media) and message development. The Communications Director will work with the campaign and political teams to provide assessments of candidates’ press operations.

The Communications Director may serve as on-the-record spokesperson for EMILY’s List so the candidate must show an ability to work quickly to summarize and communicate complex issues to multiple audiences. Candidates should have a track record of working on political campaigns, speaking on the record, pitching reporters on story ideas, placing op-eds, as well as having a successful track record with other media opportunities. Experience with new media is a plus. Strong and established relationships with members of the national press also an asset.

The Communications Director will need to build a short-term and long-term communications strategy for EMILY’s List as it goes into its 25th year and it expands its presence in the political world and women’s movement.

Requirements:

  • Strong strategic planning, management, and organizational skills
  • High comfort level with on the record media interactions
  • Effective and creative writing skills
  • Political campaign experience preferable
  • Previous experience as part of a senior management team
  • At least ten years communications experience
