EMILY's List Endorses Marcia Fudge in Ohio's 11th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, one of the nation’s largest political action committees and financial resources for women running for elected office, today announced its endorsement of Mayor Marcia Fudge in Ohio’s 11th congressional district.
“A long-time friend and advisor to Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Mayor Marcia Fudge has the experience and dedication to continue the late Congresswoman’s legacy,” said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY’s List. “Her patience, vision, judgment, and sense of humor will be a welcome addition to the U.S. House. EMILY’s List and our members are proud to support her congressional campaign and look forward to her dynamic impact in Congress.”
Mayor Fudge’s wide range of experience has given her the leadership, management, and negotiating skills that will help her thrive in Congress. As an Ohio lawyer, Mayor Fudge knows how the law works and the kind of reform we need. She honed these abilities in Ohio courtrooms and in various county leadership positions, including eight years as the director of budget & finance for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutors Office.
After serving as Congresswoman Tubbs Jones’ Chief of Staff during her first term in Congress, Fudge decided to pursue elected office herself. In 2000, she became the first African American and first female mayor of Warrensville Heights, a suburb of Cleveland. Additionally, Mayor Fudge has been involved in many civic endeavors over the years, holding board positions on the Cleveland Public Library, Alcoa Aluminum, and the Judge Lloyd O. Brown Scholarship Committee.
“I’m honored to receive the support of EMILY’s List as I strive to represent Ohio’s 11th district,” said Mayor Fudge. “As EMILY’s List members know, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones was passionate about helping small businesses, improving local schools, expanding job opportunities for Ohioans, and ensuring our access to health care. I look forward to continuing that legacy using my own voice and own experiences, and pledge to continue to fight hard for the families of Ohio.”
With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY’s List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List has raised over $240 million to elect 71 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 23 years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
